Anyone notice the federal government announced that it bought the antibiotic Cipro in the millions of quantity for between 85 cents to $1.05 to fight anthrax? The faltering Bayer company was thus bailed out but the next week the same feds announced there were several other less expensive and better antibiotics to combat anthrax.….Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.), while "facing no imminent health crisis, has moved into Walter Reed Army Medical Center indefinitely." Thurmond, who turns 99 on Dec. 5, "will continue his Senate duties but live at the hospital" instead of his Virginia apartment (Charleston Post & Courier).[You know his health is really failing when he moves into Arlington Mortuary but still tends to his Senate duties]...At a recent GOP candidate forum, former NH Sen. Gordon Humphrey "pointed out that last year was a tough election year for GOPers." He then said: "The President barely got elected with the help of the Supreme Court." The crowd "promptly fell silent with shock." (Concord Monitor, 11/11)... Did anyone notice despite the President exhorting us to carry on as usual, he closed the White House to tours? Bob Novak, conservative columnist, points out Bush made those decisions, not the Secret Service as the spinmakers would have you believe…..After brushing away GOP entreaties to go after his old Second District New York seat, Rick Lazio is starting to feed the fever. On Veterans Day, he made the rounds to local groups, and he's updating his Web site. Also, new Lazio bumper stickers are showing up. Still, he owes $750,000 from his failed bid to beat Hillary Rodham Clinton in last year's Senate race….. Businessman D.G.
