The financial services lobby has decided on a plan for Enron legislation in the Senate, so expect some new developments. The bankers, securities industry, and insurance agents are happy with the House bill, and now they're ready to hit the Senate. When the most powerful lobby groups in the business get together and agree on a plan, there's not much stopping them in Congress. As long as no one decides to grandstand, they feel they'll be successful in passing legislation that will be good for business and, they say, for the consumer…..Sen. Joseph Lieberman's wife, Hadassah, earned $328,000 last year on the speaking circuit, the Hartford Courant reports. She spoke to 21 groups last year "and earned $16,000 per speech for most of her appearances."….House GOP Conference Chairman J. C. John Thune (R) 46%, Sen. Tim Johnson (D) 42%... West Virginia voters approved a ban on hunting in every county but one on Sundays. The lone county did not have the measure on the primary ballot but is on the November ballot instead...According to Cook's Political Report, three states, with a combined 24 percent of the nation's population, have produced just three competitive seats! In fact, there are just as many competitive races in Iowa as there are in California, Illinois and Texas combined.
