LACEY

Stars spent her life in a cage. She had never touched the ground. She gave birth to litter after litter of puppies. No one ever touched her with love. The man who "owned" her only had one arm so went he grabbed her out of her cage, he grabbed her by her leg and hauled her around by her leg. She was very afraid of people but so hopeful that she would be loved. She was incredibly happy when she realized that people were petting her and loving her and that she was safe. She ran and ran around the yard. Stars is a precious, sweet, happy Cocker Spaniel. She is grateful for every kindness that is shown to her. And she's beautiful. She should be a princess.

Lacey was born in 1993. She spent 9 years in a cage. She lived a life of misery and deprivation. These photos were taken just after she was rescued by HUA. She was horribly depressed - staring blindly at the wall and barking. She's like an ancient person who just stares and doesn't know what is going on. The years of boredom drove her insane. When she was being groomed, she gave the groomer one little lick on the cheek, just barely, at the end of the grooming.

The groomer was heartbroken for her. She was covered with mats, had a raging skin infection and a respiratory infection. She also had dry eye and lost 9 teeth when they were cleaned.

Lacey was adopted by a family in Omaha who loves the ones who are in the most need. She got three weeks of love and comfort before she unexpectedly died of heart failure.

If you ever thought of buying a puppy in a pet store, stop for one moment and think about their parents - dogs like Lacey imprisoned in small cages enduring lives of deprivation and misery. Do not ever buy a puppy in a pet store.

STARS

Margie is an excellent dog. She's so smart and well mannered. She has a great personality. She loves people and gets along with other dogs. She is another one of the dogs that the humans in the Midwest dumped in the country to die this winter. She was born in 2000 and weighs about 50 pounds. She is black with brown speckles. Margie is a lab mix. Margie is spayed and current on health care.

FERONA

ROSINA
Rosina was born in January 1992 and spent 8 years giving birth to litter after litter of puppies. The miller tried to wring one more litter out of the little girl. She developed pyometra (a severe and deadly uterine infection). She would have died if she had not gotten excellent medical care. She weighs 6.6 pounds. She is full of spirit and happiness. She adores attention from people she knows and trusts. She was debarked and when she opens her mouth she sounds like a bird warbling.

What a guy! Tag was full of mud and burrs and tangles, plus some buckshot when he came to the shelter. His bones were poking through his skin. But he was hppy in no time at all, after clipping, a bath, a full tummy and lots of hugs. Now he likes to play with friends and loves all of the attention he can get from people. He lived in a home with a person who loved him but was unable to care for him. That's why he was in such bad shaped when he came to HUA. His person had to go to a nursing home. Tag clearly misses his home and wishes he had a person of his own. Tag is a poodle mix. Tag is about 13 pounds and is current on health care.

Ferona was abandoned to die in the country. It's a common experience for dogs in the midwest. Ferona is a happy dog, high energy and very outgoing. She loves to play. She's great with people but can be a little overwhelming for another dog. She needs a dog who is her size. Ferona is about two years. She is a shepherd mix with pretty long silky black hair. She's been spayed and is current on health care.

TAG

Sally was the only one saved from a puppymill. Sally had a terrible eye infection that would have lead to blindness if she had not gotten treatment. She also had a mammary tumor. Fortuantely it was found to be benign.
Sally is a precious Maltese who is hopeful of being loved. She is shy but not terribly frightened. She weighs about 9 pounds and is current on health care.
