Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich To Speak in Omaha August 1
Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Dennis Kucinich will speak at an August 1 forum in Omaha on the Bush Administration's plans to build a new generation of nuclear weapons. The 6:00 p.m. Friday night forum at the Peter Kiewit Center in downtown Omaha is part of a three-day schedule of events. On the agenda of this meeting is discussion of the development and production of "mini-nukes" or "bunker buster" nuclear weapons for use in conventional military conflicts.
Rep. Kucinich, chair of the House of Representatives Progressive Caucus and a vocal critic of President Bush's military and defense policies, including the doctrine of "preemption" used to justify the war on Iraq, will be joined at the forum by the director of the organization that first broke the story of the August 7 meeting at STRATCOM.
The forum will be held in the auditorium of the Peter Kiewit Center, 1313 Farnam Street in downtown Omaha. The event is free and open to the public, but the auditorium has a maximum capacity of 500 people, and seating will be on a first come, first served basis. Immediately following the forum, a "lantern float" commemorating the 58th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, with four actual Hiroshima survivors in attendance, will be held on the Gene Leahy Mall. This event too is free and open to the public.
