The employees were laid off in spite of the fact the private replacements will cost the taxpayers over $430,000 more than the government workers...Illinois Democrat Senate President Emil Jones (D-IL filed a bill to have Illinois redraw congressional districts in the state for the 2004 elections to create more Democratic seats. He said the move would be in direct response to the recent Texas redistricting plan adopted at the request of US House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-TX). Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) joked to the newspaper that the bill should be entitled "The Tom DeLay Retribution Act." New Mexico is considering the same….After US Senator Bob Smith (R-NH) lost his race for re-election in the GOP primary last year, he moved to Florida and went to work as a realtor. According to the Charlotte Sun-Herald, Smith said he's been looking at the open US Senate seat race in the state ever since Bob Graham announced his retirement plans. "My wife and I certainly had no intention of re-entering politics when we moved here, but ever since Senator Graham retired, a lot of people have been asking me to run," said Smith.
