Two weeks ago, Thompson was grilled about the two different reports at a House Ways and Means committee hearing. Realizing that his hypocrisy was about to get out of hand, he said that he would reissue the original report. The report was put online this week. "A mistake was made, and it's going to be rectified," Thompson said.

But the "mistake" does not rectify the larger fact that the attempt was part of the Bush pattern of deleting the truth, like the Environmental Protection Agency report that eliminated any references to humans directly causing global warming and the Justice Department report that blacked out nearly half of its 186 pages that documented racism within the ranks of its attorneys. There can be only one reason the White House did not want Americans to know that disparities come at a personal and societal price. It is because the White House has no intention of paying the price to destroy the disparities.
