truth-in-labeling laws to tell the consumer if they are eating Nebraska beef or Argentine beef. It is the Democrats who support small farm economics instead of favoring the agribusiness conglomerate.
On the other hand, it has been the GOP in past years who have been stingy with farm disaster relief. It has been the GOP which has reduced farm aid. It has been the GOP who has continued to favor the agribusiness giants and corporate farm programs over the individual scraping out a living on the family farm. Like the pea under the shell or three card monty, the obvious choice is never correct. GOP promises to farmers are just so much hype but never become substance.
One might think it is a no-brainer who the farmers should have supported. However, party identification is sometimes difficult to overcome. Both candidates were conservatives and both were pro-life. The only major difference between them was the stem cell question. The Democrat favored stem cell research as do 69% of Nebraskans. Still, you'd be hard pressed to find many compelling reasons to have predicted such a lopsided loss for the Democrat.
Maybe someone should write a book, "What's the Matter with Nebraskans?" or at least one called "What's the Matter with First District Nebraska Farmers?"
