Republican support among women "has dropped significantly since November, creating an opening for Democratic and female candidates in next year's midterm elections," Roll Call reports. "Among women who supported President Bush six months ago, just 66 percent said they will definitely support Republican Congressional candidates next year while one-third said they will either vote Democratic or are undecided, with the bulk of them being undecided." ….With California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) popularity plummeting, two of his three ballot initiatives -- measure imposing strict budget controls and changing redistricting rules -- are in trouble with voters, according to a new Field Poll. Only the governor's plan to limit teacher tenure would pass if the vote were today. Further, the  muscleman governor trails both presumed challengers in the Democratic primary….A new Zogby Poll shows 42% of Americans would favor impeaching President Bush if were shown he intentionally mislead Americans on the reasons for invading Iraq...Sen. Chaffee (R-RI) leads potential challengers by as little as 5%….

Republican mutterings over former President George H. W. Bush's budding friendship with one-time archrival Bill Clinton are growing. What started when President Bush put the two foes on the tsunami relief parade has some GOP-ers worried that the old man and wife Barbara have fallen for Bubba. And now this: Clinton's staying at Bush's Kennebunkport, Maine, summer home during a book tour this month. Why care? Republicans fret that the ties might prompt the Bushes to pull punches against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton if she runs in 2008….The rumor mill in Washington is betting President Bush will make recess appointment to the United Nations of embattled John Bolton as ambassador…..A Mason-Dixon Poll shown number one GOP target Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida leading the presumed Republican nominee Kathleen Harris by a wide margin, 53-36. Harris, former Florida Secretary of State during the 2000 election ballot scandal actually has higher negatives than the incumbent….."Things aren't getting better; they're getting worse. The White House is completely disconnected from reality," Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) tells U.S. News. "It's like they're just making it up as they go along. The reality is that we're losing in Iraq."...Just 42% of Americans approve of President Bush's job performance, while 53% disapprove and 5% are undecided, according to a new American Research Group survey….An EMILY's List report finds that
