Specter suffers from a form of cancer and has lost his hair from chemo treatments…...The GOP establishment is quietly trying to recruit someone to realistically have a chance at beating Congresswoman Kathleen Harris for the GOP Senate primary next summer….In the Virginia race for governor to replace term limited Gov. Warner, Lt. Gov. Kaine has gone from a 6 point deficit to a one point lead over GOP candidate Kilgore according to latest polls….
"In the wake of a devastating ruling by a Sacramento judge stripping the Nov. 8 ballot of his initiative to overhaul redistricting," CA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) political team "discussed options including ways to cancel the spe-cial election," the Sacramento Bee reports. Meanwhile, the San Jose Mercury News notes "many are wondering whether Arnold's suffer-ing from many of the same ills that brought down Gray Davis."

Barbara Hafer, Republican-turned-Democrat in PA may be headed for a congressional race. PA looks increasingly vulnerable to House pickups by the Democrats, specifically in the 3,4,6,7,8,10, 15 and 18th districts…..The Congr-essional Insiders Poll shows agreement by Republicans and Democrats on two key issues. Insiders of both parties agree that there should be no term limits for Supreme Court justices and no timetable set on withdrawing troops from Iraq. ...Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, "is writing a book about her life, including her recent successful treatment for breast cancer," the Boston Globe reports. Her book, along with a book by her husband, "will be published at a time when" they are "traveling around the country testing the waters for a 2008 presidential bid." ...Former Rep. Robert Dornan (R-CA), "a rabble-rousing Republican and notorious conservative who represented Orange County from 1985 through 1996, is eyeing another run for Congress, despite defeats in 1996, 1998 and 2004," the Los Angeles Times reports.
"This time, Dornan, 72, is weighing whether to abandon the GOP and run as a candidate for the American Independent Party. He is hoping to gain a strategic advantage in a bid for the plum coastal congressional seat held by Rep.
Christopher Cox (R-CA)."...New Jersey Gov. Richard Codey signed a series of voting bills which among other things provides for a verified paper voting trail for every vote cast starting in 2008...Wall Street Journal/NBC Poll-"By 45% to 38%, Americans say they would prefer that the 2006 elections produce a Democratic-controlled Congress rather than a Republican-controlled Congress."..Illinois Gov.
