The governor was speculated to be considering pardoning himself but did not do so at his news conference. State legislators are researching the viability of Fletcher pardoning persons prior to convictions and are considering impeachment procedures for Fletcher….Astronomical gas prices and a growing realization we will not be able to win the war in Iraq have bought Bush's approval numbers to new lows in opinion polls. Bush's approval is down to 38 percent in some polls…Katherine Harris (R-FL), former Florida Sec of State during the infamous 2000 Florida recount and now a congresswoman from Florida, is trailing incumbent Nelson (D-FL) in the early polling by 30 points. Florida GOP operatives as well as president Bush are afraid Harris is too controversial to mount an effective campaign against the incumbent Democrat….

Bob Woodard, of Watergate fame, is still predicting VP Dick Cheney will run for his party's nomination for president in 2008. Woodard notes Cheney would be only 67 if elected versus Reagan's age of 69 when inaugurated…. The crowd at a Sen. Ricky Santorum rally chanted "hey, hey, ho, ho, Social Security has got to go," later the crowd ridiculed Cindy Sheehan, mother of a Marine killed in action in Iraq and protesting the war by camping out at Bush's 5-week vacation spot in Crawford, Texas by chanting "we don't care."….Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner (D) "plans to announce Tuesday that he will not challenge Sen. George Allen (R-VA) next year, leaving the popular Democrat free to explore a presidential bid," the Washington Post reports. "The announcement robs Virginia of what could have been a blockbuster political confrontation in 2006." However, since Allen "is also considering a run at the presidency in 2008," they could possibly face off in a 2008 presidential race….Though Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) insists "he had publicly and privately raised questions about efforts to contain the insurgency" in Iraq, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports the senator's office "acknowledged yesterday that it cannot locate public statements of the senator questioning the Iraq war."….Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) "holds a 24-point edge in her bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate," according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll. She leads Jeanine Pirro, 57% to 33%. Clinton first won her Senate seat by a 9-point margin….Missouri's Senate race just went top-tier as the state auditor, Claire McCaskill, reportedly has decided to forego another easy re-election and challenge Sen. Jim Talent for the United States Senate ion 2006...An official in Austria announced the museum honoring California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will close in his hometown of Thal due to lack of crowds and thus lack of funding.
