Political insiders say a close aide to New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg's (R) has been pushing a 2008 bid, reports the New York Observer. The plan would have Bloomberg run as an independent or Democrat. Said political consultant Bob Shrum: '"He would have a very strong record to run on.
