POINT OF ORDER  (CONT.)

Could this whole tragedy have been avoided? I think the answer is clearly yes.

Sue was one of millions of people without health insurance. Unlike every other western nation, the United States has no universal health care program thanks in no small part to pharmaceutical, insurance and health care lobbies that fund congressional campaign coffers to keep the extremely profitable health care system just that.

So with the broken health care system in place, Sue was one of some 45 million people without health care coverage. I don't know what earlier detection might have done but certainly without threatening huge medical bills proper prevention of Sue's condition couldn't have cost much. Maybe a couple of hundred dollars, maybe a little more.

Whatever the cost it pales in comparison to three children now facing an uncertain future.

This scenario is no doubt duplicated thousands of times every month across this nation. It is a travesty while this administration and congress pour hundreds of billions of dollars into an unwinable war 45 million Americans like Sue face her fate every day for lack of funding.

Every month more and more Americans fall into that uninsured category as premiums skyrocket, unions have to give up benefits and businesses are priced out of the market. The administration and congress should be ashamed and Americans should be indignant.

Nobody should have to take a loved one off life support nor should children be without a loving parent because congress and the White House are addicted to campaign cash from health care lobbyists.
