Today this administration continues to mortgage our future to finance this quagmire and enrich the already rich. But the war serves a bigger purpose to the administration. It serves to obscure. It obscures the deliberate dismantling of our society to be rebuilt in the mold the neocons think best.
Here at home on a hundred fronts our Constitution has been trampled upon, our civil liberties eroded and our laws ignored, all under the guise of "national interest."
This administration thrives on fear for it cannot function without it. Devoid of any ideas other than dismantling Social Security or squeezing the life from Medicare, the powers in the White House must continually frame issues as "us or them." This distraction obscures the warrantless wiretaps, the lack of habeas corpus, immunity from legal proceedings for telecoms for turning over your phone records, exempting any and all military procedures here in this country from environmental laws, pardoning people like Scooter Libby for his crimes against this nation, corruption running amuck in no-bid government contracts to friends and campaign contributors and prosecuting members of the opposition while turning a blind eye towards worse violations from members of their own party.
As a nation we have become so weary of Iraq and its portfolio of daily disasters we have tuned out what is happening in our own back yard. One example of hundreds is Appalachia. How many of us know that this administration has allowed to be leveled over 850 square miles of beautiful mountaintops in West Virginia. Our purple mountains' majesty leveled like a 1950's flat top haircut, just so coal companies can more easily extract high-sulpher dirty coal.. Mountains that have stood for tens of thousands of years gone in a few years and gone forever.
This, friends, is but one of the casualties of this administration's war in Iraq. The list of our losses under this corrupt administration is endless. The Grant and Harding administrations will look like church choirs compared to this shameless administration.
It is far past the time we should have awoke to these thieves in the night. It is too late for the west Virginia mountains but wake up, America, before it is too late to halt the assault and battery this White House is doing to our lives, our constitution, our laws and our land.
